The first Tesla center opens in Hainan

The Haikou Tesla Center, located in Xiuying District of Haikou City, capital of Hainan, was officially opened on January 15. As Tesla's first center in the island province, it will offer consulting, delivery and after-sales services for customers.

In addition, the Tesla Center in Sanya will open to the public in the first half of this year. And Tesla will build supercharging stations in all cities and counties on the island before September 30, 2021. 

Hainan is China’s first province to announce a plan to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles in 2030. Hainan is also leading the country in terms of ownership of electric vehicles, with 62,000 owned on the island, 2.4% higher than the national average.

Hainan is also speeding up the building of charging poles/guns. According to primary estimate, 9,626 charging poles/guns and four battery swapping stations were constructed around the island in 2020, nearly two times higher than that of the annual plan. Currently, Hainan has 21,832 charging poles/guns, 11,031 of which are public ones, achieving an EV-to-charging pole ratio of 2.8:1.
