Hainan to effectively stimulate consumption potential

A press conference on “Boosting Confidence, Promoting Consumption” was held on April 20 in Haikou.

According to the press conference, aimed at further promoting consumption within the island, Hainan will roll out a series of initiatives regarding the improvements on weaknesses of consumption, implementation of new consumption policies and construction of new promotional platforms.

Specific initiatives involves: upgrading urban commercial facilities, creating a number of featured commercial pedestrian streets, setting up comprehensive consumer stations along the roundabout tourist highway, building a new batch of night markets and encouraging their extension of business hours to motivate the economy at night, releasing the second batch of smart business districts and stores, quickening the introduction of internationally renowned brands, and supporting the application of Haikou and Sanya for International Consumption Centers.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Department of Commerce is working with relevant departments to optimize the duty-free policy, expand the types of duty-free goods and structure a more open and convenient policy system for island residents’ daily shopping.

The implementation of national policies on subsidies for new energy vehicles, elimination of outmoded diesel vehicles and circulation of the used, together with the launch of promotional measures for car consumption are taken into the Department’s consideration as well.

The Department also plans to build more duty-free experience stores in certain attractions and hotels and initiate the 2nd Hainan Duty-Free Shopping Festival on May 1.
