For foreign COVID-19 patients: treatment first, charge later

The National Medical Insurance Bureau, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Health Commission recently issued the "Notice on Issues Concerning the Payment of Medical Expenses for Foreign COVID-19 Patients." The notice stipulates that all hospitals should treat the confirmed and presumptive cases first, charge them later and ensure that all the patients can be admitted in the hospital. In principle, the expenses of isolation of foreign personnel shall be borne by themselves.

The notice states that for foreign patients not being included in China's basic medical insurance, all of them should be treated first and charged later. All the expenses should be covered by the foreigners themselves.

For those with commercial health insurance, the commercial insurance company will pay the expenses in time according to the contract.

For foreign patients being included in China's basic medical insurance, their expenses regarding basic medical insurance and serious illness insurance will be covered by the insurance in accordance with regulations, and the rest shall be borne by themselves.

Foreign medical personnel under China's basic medical insurance, their medical expenses incurred during their stay in the hospital for observation will be reimbursed. Those without China's basic medical insurance shall bear the cost by themselves.
