China has unveiled new measures to expand Hainan's duty-free shopping policy for outbound travelers. It will add more product categories and offer greater benefits to consumers. The new measures will take effect in November. Sun Tianyuan reports.

Hainan's duty-free stores experienced a shopping boom during China's National Day Golden Week, and a new policy is set to give that momentum an extra lift.

The updated list of duty-free goods now covers 47 categories, including pet supplies, portable musical instruments, and small home appliances.

Travelers aged 18 and above, including Hainan residents, can shop duty-free up to 100,000 yuan. That's about 14,000 U.S. dollars a year.

The policy comes as Hainan's free trade port prepares to launch a special customs operation in December. Industry insiders say the outlook is bright.

Visitors from 86 countries can now enter Hainan visa-free. Hotels expect higher arrivals as the free trade port gears up for launch.

Hainan recorded over two million border crossings so far this year, up 22 percent. Foreign travelers account for more than half, rising 45 percent year-on-year.
