Bougainvillea
Bougainvillea, Hainan’s provincial flower, stands gracefully against wind and rain, shining brightly all year round.
From the gentle glow of morning clouds to the rich purples of dusk, it beautifully gathers the island’s most vibrant colors into a single, breathtaking display.
With the Chinese New Year approaching, may we all grow like bougainvillea, taking root in life’s soil and thriving with unwavering vitality.
Clerodendrum japonicum
Known locally as “Top Scholar Red,” Clerodendrum japonicum is a beloved sight along the eaves and alleyways of Hainan, beautifully woven into the fabric of island life.
From late autumn to early spring, its torch-like clusters shine a brilliant red, illuminating the season.
It is also known as “Hundred-Day Red,” conveying the hope that good luck will endure and the light of joyful days will always shine brightly.
As the Chinese New Year approaches, may you embrace the joyful spirit of red, live passionately, and move forward gently, always in bloom.
Venus slipper orchid
Hidden deep within Hainan’s rainforests, the Venus slipper orchid (paphiopedilum) is a nationally protected treasure, often called a “little pouch of blessings.”
Its Chinese name literally means “pouch orchid,” as if it understands that beautiful things are meant to be gently received and carefully kept.
With the Chinese New Year coming near, may you, like this rare orchid, grow peacefully in time’s vales. Cherish every blessing that arrives quietly, yet surely.
