In a significant move towards advancing green energy solutions, Siemens Energy has officially launched its Hainan Innovation Center in Yangpu. Located in Danzhou in the western part of China’s Hainan Province, this new center focused on fostering international collaboration in the energy sector aims to become a hub for high-level talent exchange, and is set to play a key role in supporting Hainan’s development as a “clean energy island.”
As one of the world’s leading energy technology companies, Siemens Energy is committed to deepening its collaboration with Hainan. Following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in July with the Hainan Government, the two parties are set to work together on research, development, manufacturing, and the application of hydrogen energy technologies. To promote innovation in the global energy industry, the newly established Hainan Innovation Center will collaborate with major domestic and international enterprises, renowned universities, and think tanks.
During the unveiling ceremony, Zhao Zuozhi (Global Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Greater China at Siemens Energy)emphasized the company’s goal of building a bridge for international cooperation through the new center. He stated that Siemens Energy—in partnership with both domestic and international stakeholders—aims to contribute to the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port, the transformation of Hainan into a “clean energy island,” and the broader global energy transition. In mid-December, Siemens Energy and the Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development (Hainan IEDB) will co-host the Global Green Shipping Conference to promote low-carbon solutions in the shipping industry.
The decision to establish the innovation center in Hainan was largely influenced by the region’s unique advantages in green energy development (including its abundant wind power resources), and its strategic location (which serves as a gateway to Southeast Asia). Siemens Energy plans to leverage these advantages to accelerate the adoption and evolution of energy transition technologies and will work closely with partners within Hainan’s Free Trade Port to drive innovation in the green energy sector.
