Hainan unveils seven roads for self-driving testing
Hainan authorities unveiled seven roads for self-driving testing on 13 October, the first of its kind on the island following steps of other Chinese provinces in developing smart vehicle technologies.
The 129.2-kilometer-long roads designated for testing are located in Haikou, Sanya, Qionghai, and Wenchang. The longest track of them - 88.7 kilometers - is located in Wenchang, which also makes it the longest of its kind in China. As it is part of the island loop scenic highway, it can offer unique testing environment for carmakers.
Hainan issued rules and regulations for testing self-driving vehicles on 1 October and plans to make Hainan an open, unique, and internationally-influential testing ground for autonomous driving technologies.
