On December 4, a promotion event hosted by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to present the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) to the world was held in Beijing. Themed "Local Practices of Chinese Modernization - Hainan Free Trade Trade Port: New Era, New Mission, New Opportunities," the event aimed to showcase the unique strengths, early results, and development prospects of the FTP, as well as the cooperation opportunities it offers to the world.
Featuring impressive promotion speeches from foreign envoys and the island province's leading officials, videos, photo exhibitions, and cultural performances, the event attracted 500 attendees, including diplomats and officials from over 160 countries as well as representatives from international organizations, enterprises, trade associations, and domestic and foreign media.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that the Hainan FTP has become a new frontier of China's institutional opening up, a new hot spot for mutually beneficial regional cooperation, and a new engine driving economic globalization.

In June 2020, China released a master plan that laid out the goal of transforming the whole of Hainan island into a globally influential and high-level free trade port by the middle of the century.

The construction of the Hainan FTP has gained momentum and the region has attracted an increasing number of regional and global enterprises to invest and set up business, presenting a new and dynamic environment of openness and progress, Wang added.

Hainan's commitment to greater openness and building a first-class business environment is clear. Nationals from 77 countries can now enter Hainan without a visa. Over the past few years, the Hainan FTP has attracted international investors with the country's shortest negative list for foreign investment and first negative list for cross-border trade in services and welcomed international visitors with a wide range of grand events such as the Boao Forum for Asia, China International Consumer Products Expo, and Hainan Island International Film Festival.

During the promotion event, Swiss Ambassador to China Jürg Burri, Singaporean Ambassador to China Peter Tan, and Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to China Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi delivered keynote speeches, highlighting Hainan's achievements in economic development, social advances, and environmental protection. They also expressed a desire to explore more cooperation opportunities in the Hainan FTP and enhance mutual exchanges in the future.
