Visa-free tourists to Hainan increases 6.5× year-on-year
According to statistics released at a recent press conference by the provincial government, this year's visa-free entries to Hainan has reached 238,500 (for a nearly sevenfold increase over the same period).
Hainan's favorable visa-free policies are the best in the nation. Since this year, the National Immigration Administration has expanded the pre-existing conditions for visa-free entry to Hainan to citizens of 59 countries coming for any reason; that visitors from Hong Kong and Macao get 144 hours visa-free; and that people arriving on cruise ships may stay for 15 days. As a result, over 80% of the non-domestic tourists visiting Hainan have come to the island under the visa-free policies.
The province has eight open ports of entry and ten “second line ports.” This year, Haikou Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection has recorded 1,514,000 entries and exits (up 278.5% over last year); and has inspected 13,200 flights/boats (up 101% over last year).
With the upcoming special customs operation of the Hainan Free Trade Port, Hainan's visa-free and temporary entry procedures are projected to continue expanding. At the same time, international flights and cruise routes are also increasing, and self-service and contactless customs clearance for Chinese and non-Chinese are starting to be implemented in various ports of entry.
