The First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical College, established in 1973, is a Grade A general hospital. The hospital has 59 medical departments, 17 teaching and research departments, 6 research institutes, 2 national key clinical specialties (emergency medicine, oncology), 2 disciplines / specialties of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM hepatobiliary disease, acupuncture).The hospital is the first batch of tumor (digestive system) multi-disciplinary diagnosis and treatment pilot hospitals in China, the first batch of painless delivery pilot units in China, and the first batch of CTCT bases in China for trauma training.

The hospital is the medical institution with the strongest research capacity in Hainan Province, and a research hospital is under construction. The hospital has a National Gene Testing Technology Application and Demonstration Center (Hainan), a “China-Myanmar Regional Joint Research Center for Major Disease Prevention and Control” of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and a Ministry of Education Key Laboratory Construction Unit (Emergency and Trauma Research).
